The Plot Thickens
So, on Wednesday I talked about my search for a new job, and I said that the search started about a "week ago".

Well, that's mostly accurate - but leaves out one important note. Four weeks ago I sent an email to the company I left last year mentioning that I'd be back on the job market soon. I didn't get a reply. :(

Today, I basically got an offer from (that place I said sounded interesting) -- they just wanted references first. So I called my old boss and let them know that my potentially-new-boss would be calling them.

Ten minutes later, I was on a conference call with the president and two of his VPs...they offered me my old job back.

Wow, I feel pretty good about myself right now.

Anyway, for all that I loved my old job and all the people I worked with (and they truly are awesome), I couldn't just accept on the spot. I was very sudden, and I couldn't say yes (or no) without thinking through everything first. It DOES seem like I'll have at least one more offer coming at me within the next business day or two.

It's a question of progress. Do I want to go back to somewhere I've been, or do I want to plunge into something unknown? In five years, which route will lead me further ahead, and which route will make me happier? Where will I have the best chance to learn new things? Which job seems most *secure*? Which is more financially rewarding?

These things are not always going to be found in the same place.

I miss the people at Acrobat Research, and the thought of returning to those wonderful individuals fills me with joy. But who knows what awaits me at job #2?

Part of me hopes that job #2's offer will fall below my expectations and make my decision an easy one. I don't believe that's going to happen, however -- I think that they'll make a very enticing offer.

My heart wants to go back to Acrobat. My mind thinks that company #2 has more growth potential -- though my own role there is a mystery and may not be influential. I know my role at Acrobat -- I feel important.

i think you're gonna be stuck in a "grass is always greener" type of situation ... at for a few weeks until you get settled at one or the other job.

best of luck to ya!
