The last time that there was so much international goodwill towards the US was on 9/11. Bush obliterated every last trace of that goodwill in record time.
Unfortunately for Obama, there's no real way for him to go up from where things are right now. If he doesn't single-handedly solve every domestic and international problem, people are going to be disappointed.
That being said, he's obviously pretty committed to making a run at it. Day 1: Puts a freeze on Guantanamo Bay for 120 days. Just straight out doesn't fuck around. Clearly his goal of shutting it down can't be done instantaneously, but this action on his first day makes it obvious that he isn't backing down from that promise.
I mean...damn. People are talking about how important his first 100 days are.....but so far his first 100 hours are promising to be insane. Hell, I think he finished the expected ceremonial partying on the 20th and went straight to work that night, pulling this move off in his first 100 minutes of real work.
